Hey, did you hear?

So-and-so quit today. That's what I heard. And by the way, can I have their office?

Nope, sure can't. Why? because #1 - I said so and #2 - everyone else already said so 2 weeks ago when you asked for an office.

Gee, what a nice thing to do to a still fellow co-worker..."dibs on the office! When can you get your shit out of here?"

I have just about had it today with people not being courteous. Is someone quitting their job, such an exciting feat that you can't even ask how I am doing today, before you pump me for info?

Don't know or care if they quit. Why? because I have a job to do regardless.

Thanks for not even responding to me after I tell you I don't know - guess that really is the only reason you contacted me. THANKS.

I Looked Up Yesterday

Yesterday was his birthday and on my way to work I got a text from Jeff. It said "Hi! Today is Basem's bday be sure to have some cake!". I had mixed emotions, but knew that it would be a positive day overall because I would be thinking about Basem all day.

Basem and I went to High School together. He was one of the most down-to-earth, friendly people I knew. He was the guy that was friends with everyone - accepted everyone and liked them for who they were - not what they had or how "cool" they appeared. He and I became friends my Freshman year. He was in a lot of my classes and we seemed to end up sitting by each other a lot. We would walk to our classes together, talk about our relationships and joke around all of the time.

Basem has an older brother and I had a mini-crush on him my Junior year. Bro was in my Advanced Algebra/Trigonometry class and I sat right next to him. I would blush and get all flustered when he would talk to me - and I made the mistake of mentioning it to Basem. First of all, I had a boyfriend, so he and I both knew that it was nothing more than a very attractive boy making my heart beat a little bit faster. BUT, Basem didn't care about that. He started meeting me AND HIS BROTHER outside of the math class - how he got to our class so fast, I will never know. When we came back to school after Spring Break that year, Basem told me he had something for me and that he would bring it the next day. I got to my locker the next morning and sure enough, Basem was there with a shirt. I thought, "Okay, he bought me a shirt. That's so nice!". Basem just stood there and smiled - and I started to rethink my initial assumption...Then he looked at me smiling wider than I had ever seen before and said "It's Bro's shirt! I took it out of his closet for you!". I was flabbergasted! I mean, what the HECK?!? I laughed and tried to give it back to him. He would not take it no matter how much I pleaded with him and tried to force it into his hands. I lay the shirt on his shoulder, but he shrugged it off and ran down the hall. I had to get to class so, I put it in my locker to deal with later. I ended up having the shirt for a few weeks before Basem took it back because he thought I should keep it and wear it. I really couldn't keep it, considering his brother didn't even know it was gone!

We moved into our Senior year and my life changed a lot. I had some family trouble and a lot of problems with my boyfriend, as well. Basem was the one person that I could confide in and he would never judge me. My boyfriend was full of jealousy and mistrust, but he trusted Basem - so, Basem would walk with me to class and was really one of a few people I knew had my back if I ever needed him.

We both ended up in American Women's History class, of all classes. As the spring and graduation approached, everyone started to get tan. Basem and I started this silly competition to see who could get more tan. I know, I know - very unhealthy...but we were young and dumb. I never quite won because he would go tanning almost every other day after school, when I on the other hand, had to go to work. It was fun, regardless.

Quickly after graduation, the boyfriend was gone, the tan was gone and college began. I saw Basem at a club that we all planned to go to and we of course compared tans - and admitted that we both had gone to the tanning salon to make sure we had some color. I had a blast that night, hugged and kissed Basem on the cheek when we all left and we parted ways, promising to make plans soon.

Before I could make plans, Basem left. Too soon, too young and too sudden. He was in a tragic late-night car accident that injured his friends. It was fatal for Basem. Everyone was devastated and affected permanently. I have had many nights of rehashing memories of Basem, crying and laughing about the guy we all miss so much. I still can't believe that he is not just somewhere else living life...knowing that we will see him when he comes back into town.

So, on his birthday I made sure to talk about him, tell a story that made someone laugh and sang "Happy Birthday" as I heated up my dinner yeaterday night. And before I went to bed, I looked up to my ceiling and thought, "I hope you had a great birthday Basem! I miss you!". Happy Birthday Basem!

The Morning After

Okay, so after a good night sleep - wait a minute! I had a pretty shitty night of sleep. Let's start over. Take 2 'SNAP!'

Okay, so after a crappy night of dozing on and off, I feel like Baba GaDouche. Why? Because I sound like a tool in my last post. Who the F cares what my ringtone on my phone is? and is that really the reason I chose that ringtone? Well, maybe part of the reason, but mainly it was because the song says my name in it...and right now, it's all about me. Yep, that's more like it.

Also, I do miss having romance in my life, but I don't think about it all that much. Only when I am around a couple that has love you can not only see but also feel, do I start to long for a real, live man in my life. Last night, I was with my friend we will call Jules. She and her hunk of burning love have been together for 6 YEARS!!!! And they still love each other enormous amounts! JEALOUS! Damn it! Oh well.

So, with those things being said, I guess I just talked myself down from my "morning after" regrets, in a way. So...off to get my Lid Did! I am getting the exact crimping style done today that MC Lyte had in 1988 on her Lyte as a Rock album cover. Here's a small snapshot of her look - dig it.

Question #1

"How are you doing?"

I am doing okay. I have had some odd health issues that are ongoing. All of them are medicine-related and those will end soon. Hence the new hair-do...That you all LOVE. Right??? ------------------------------------------------>

Other than that, everything is moving along in my life as normal. My job is good and I am able to pay bills on time. A blessing no one will deny, in this economy. My Family is doing well, in general, too. No, I have not had any hilarious or horrible dating episodes lately - because I haven't been dating. BUT, I am witnessing the asinine way that men act, in a way that I have never perceived them before. NO FUN, PEOPLE.

At this exact moment, I have just come home from Whiskey In A Jar, in Hamtropolis. I have referenced this establishment before and it's a fave. Check it out. I met up with a friend from High School and Star. Good times were had by all.

To be honest, years have passed without the thing I miss most. What is that, you wonder? Someone to go home to. Someone to fall asleep next to with no curfew or no "by sunrise" rule for departing.

Oh Well. My answer may be different tomorrow morning after I get my hair done again (solid crimping and mini-mullet touch-up, here I come!). That is always a pick-me-up.

But, let us not forget that I have my first nephew (or niece for that matter), and he is the cutest thing ever! Someone told me today that he is perfect and beautiful...yes, I agree. Cutie-Patootie's pictures are all over my office and on my phone, etc. I smile every time I look at his face. Life is pretty darn good, if you have someone like that to think about.

I almost forgot!! My ringtone is currently, Amanda by Boston. I know, I know...Boston. But let's face it - my name in Latin means "able to be loved" and that song is all about unrequited love. Me. by-eeeee!

Inquiring Minds Want To Know

Hey there Readers and people that found this site on accident while conducting a google search for "how to not hug and kiss"!

As you can see from my profile picture over there ------->
I have gotten a freakin' awesome throw-back hair-do from the time of my youth, which is the early 90s, for those of you that aren't good with math or historical hair styling. My new hair takes a lot of time to style and I anticipate it occupying most of my conscience thought from now on. I can't stop thinking about all the new types of crimpers and color wands that I am going to use (I'm thinking Electric Blue tomorrow)! I need to get a side-mirror for my computer monitor so I can check my hair while I type. I wonder if Staples has those online...

Anyhow, because I can't really concentrate enough on anything but my badass hair to come up with something worth-while to blog about, I am going to take this opportunity to thank you all for reading AND ask you what YOU want me to write about.

You can either e-mail me at amandawantsahugnkiss@gmail.com or write a comment in the comments section of this post. This can be as simple as asking me questions - any questions you might want to ask (this is not something I offer up often, so take advantage), or asking me to tell you about a specific type of situation in my life, society, etc. Now, guys & gals, I will not give you advice on anything that you should consult a doctor of any kind for - so don't get pissed at me if I tell you that later. Let's see what you throw at me and have some fun with it!

The ball's in your court!

Must-See Non-TV

Remember this?

How about this?

And Lastly, I would have a child, if he or she looked, sounded and thought like this little girl - she is the cutest of the cute!

YELLING OUT LOUD

AT MY TELEVISION! Why you ask? Because Hannity & Colmes (F-ing Idiots) have no one better to talk to and get opinions from tonight - one night after the election - so they are channeling "Joe the Plumber". You can tell that Joe Whatever-the-F-his-name-is doesn't even understand the words that are coming out of Sean Hannity's sour-puss mouth. I mean, really? Joe the Plumber is your EXPERT? The same Joe the Plumber who doesn't even have a Plumber's LICENSE - he isn't even qualified to be a PLUMBER, let alone a political expert! Cancel your show now Hannity & Colmes, while you can still work as mid-day anchors at a local Fox channel. But hurry, because it's only a short matter of time before important people with Conservative Republican viewpoints HATE YOUR GUTS, TOO.

And, by the way, you have ZERO proof of the propaganda you are trying to spread about Joe Lieberman being "stripped of his seat in the US Government" because he is an "independent thinker". Really, Sean? And when you ask Joe The Plumber his opinion, what does he say about that? Here is what he said, and I quote, "uh(interrupted by Hannity farting out of his pie-hole)", then, "that - that's not good". How profound, Joey Boy.

Now, one may wonder why I am watching Fox News at all, considering my views. The reason is, because earlier this evening I was flipping through the stations and Fox News was bashing Sarah Palin(how quickly they will eat their own young) and exposing her for how she acted while campaigning. I was hoping to catch some more of that trashy dish and when I saw our man Joe, I had to stop and listen - until my blood started to boil and my voice got hoarse. Now I am back on MSNBC, watching Rachel Maddow be logical and talk to actual political experts, on both side of the "aisle".

Keep On Barackin' In The Free World

As we all know by now, Barack Obama is officially the next President of the United States of America. Even me of much faith, could not believe how early in the night the election was called. It was a historic election in many ways.

1. The USA elected the first African-American to the office of President of the United States
2. Obama won the election in Indiana, Ohio, Virginia & Florida, and most of America NEVER thought those states would vote for a Black man, let alone a Democrat
3. Missouri was NOT the bell-weather for only the second time in history
4. Florida did not Fuck up the night - because it didn't matter (what is WRONG with the voting system there, anyway?!?)
5. In Michigan (didn't check other states)State Proposal - 08-1: Legislative initiative to allow under st. law the medical use of marijuana, won with over 2 million "Yes" votes. Also, State Proposal - 08-2: Cons. Amend. to address human embryo & human embryonic stem cell research, won with over 2 million "Yes" votes.

This is just the beginning of many changes to come in the next 5-10 years and I am excited to be a part of it. Next: A woman or non-Christian President!

On a related note: Congrats to the 2 Michiganders I know personally that won State House of Representative elections in their districts! I am very proud of both of you - one for being re-elected and the other for being elected for the first time. You make a difference - Thank you for all you do!

Barack The Vote

Today is November 4th. The polls open at 7am in Michigan and are open until 8pm. You have 13 hours today to vote.

Click here to link to the Michigan Voter Locator - where you can check to see if you are registered and find out where your polling location is in your city.

Remember, the only way your voice will be heard, is if you vote. Don't be that 1 vote never cast, that changes the way your state's results go.
